On International Conference dedicated to the 215th Birth Anniversary of Ignat Domeyko

On July 28 – 29, 2017 the International Conference «There is no future without the past. Science on the interface of XIX-XXI centuries » dedicated to the 215th Birth Anniversary of Ignat Domeyko is hosted by the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences (Vilnius).

Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania J.Petrauskiene, President of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences prof. V.Razumas, Vice-Rector of Vilnius University prof. R.Jankauskas, family members of Ignat Domeyko from Australia (Ms.Paz Domeyko, Mr.Miguel Domeyko) and the USA (Mrs.Cecilia Domeyko) as well as representatives of scientific communities including the Lithuanian Ignat Domeyko Society took part in the opening ceremony of the conference.

Chargé d'Affaires of the Republic of Belarus in the Republic of Lithuania Lyudmila Tatarinovich delivered a welcoming speech to the participants of the scientific forum. Belarusian diplomat noted Domeyko’s role in the development of fundamental sciences, emphasized his creative mission in uniting scientific communities, countries and peoples from different continents. Ms.Tatarinovich also informed about ongoing events in Belarus dedicated to the Anniversary of the scientist.

The Conference is organized in a format of a plenary session and working sections: Life and Work of I.Domeyko; The History of Science; Chemistry and Geosciences.

As a part of the event an exhibition which shows mineral collections, books, manuscripts and new publications about Ignat Domeyk was opened in the Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. The Head of the Lithuanian Ignat Domeyko Society prof. A.Grigelis presented the new monograph about the famous scientist.

Domeyko's descendants as well as representatives of the Lithuanian scientific community will take part in commemorative events at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus between July 31 – August 3, 2017. They will also visit Domeyko’s native places in the Grodno region.
