Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Lithuania

On April 26, 2016 Vilnius hosted consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania.

The Belarusian delegation was headed by Deputy Minister, Alena Kupchyna, the Lithuanian delegation was led by Deputy Minister,  Andrius Krivas.

During the visit to Lithuania Alena Kupchyna met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Linas Linkevičius.

The sides discussed in detail the issues of the bilateral agenda, interaction between Belarus and the European Union, including the initiative “Eastern Partnership”, as well as regional cooperation.

Belarusian side stressed the importance of further mutually beneficial contacts in trade and investment, transport and transit, environment and energy, expanding the capacity of the Belarusian-Lithuanian border.

The participants welcomed the ongoing work on transferring the checkpoint “Losha-Šumskas” on the joint border in the category of international.

The Belarusian side conveyed an invitation to Lithuanian experts to visit Belarus and to hold consultations on nuclear safety and environmental protection on the basis of the decision of the 35th session of the Committee on the implementation of the Convention on the environmental impact assessment in a transboundary context, which was held on March 15-17, 2016 in Geneva.
