N.N. Alexandrov National Cancer Centre
N.N. Alexandrov National Cancer Centre is the leading cancer centre in Belarus. The N.N. Alexandrov National Cancer Centre of Belarus is integral scientific, treating and training complex. It includes 9 scientific departments, 26 diagnosis and treatment subdivisions. The Oncology Chair of the Belarusian Medical Academy for Postgraduate Training is functioning within the facilities of the centre; 25 DScs (Medicine), and 68 MScs (Medicine and Biology), 12 professors, 2 Corresponding Members of National Academy of Sciences, Belarus. Bed capacity is 820. More than 18 000 patients are examined and administered treatment during a year. The diagnostic services are equipped by modern facilities, allowing to make a diagnosis of the most complicated cases at the earliest possible dates.
The Centre's specialists have acquired mastery of all surgical, radiotherapeutical and chemotherapeutical treatment methods for all kinds of malignant tumors, used in the world practice. Complicated operations for head and neck, breast, lung, esophagus, stomach, colon and rectum, urogenital organs, bone and soft tissue tumors are performed in 20 perfectly equipped operating rooms. Video-assisted, plastic reconstructive organ-sparing and simultaneous operations are widely used. Complicated surgical interventions are performed with efficient anasthesia.
Four modern linear accelerators make it possible to implement the intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), stereotactic, 3 and 4D conformal radiation therapy.The are also a gamma-therapeutical machine and two brachytherapy suites. Diagrams and programs of chemotherapeutic and hormonal treatment of tumors and target therapy are applied. The treatment are added to radiofrequency ablation of tumors and applying modifying impacts (hyperthermia, photodynamic therapy).
The patients with pleura tumors and abdominal membrane tumors are applied to intracavitary termchemotherapy. Aetiology and pathogenesis of cancer tumors are studied at the Centre, the methods of the prevention, diagnosis and (surgical, radiotherapeutical, medicinal ,mixed, and complex treatment of cancer tumors in adults are developed. Medical examination and rehabilitation of cancer patients are performed. There are 33 deluxe rooms. The National Cancer Centre was granted the European Quality award by the European Bussines Assembly for high professionalism, reliability and quality.
The Centre-based Belarusian society of oncologists is operating. BSO- is a public association founded in 2006 and joining voluntary specialists who are involved in research pedagogical and practical activities in the oncology and related disciplines. BSO- has been the members of the International Union against Cancer (UICC) since 2014.
